Camping Overnight Oats = the best breakfast recipe for those days when time is not on your side.
No cooking, no mess, no fuss.
Just a healthy, energy boosting breakfast that will keep you full for hours.
Got an early start?
A long journey?
A lengthy hike out to capture the sunrise coming over that awesome ridge?
If you can’t face, or don’t have time to cook up breakfast when the dawn chorus is singing, you need to master the world of overnight oats.
For those that haven’t tried them before, overnight oats are made with porridge oats.
But rather than being cooked in the morning, they are left to soak, overnight.
They are then eaten cold the following morning.
With zero effort.
You can make them every night for the following days breakfast.
Or you can make several days worth in advance (if you have a fridge or decent coolbox).
Then just grab them out of the fridge as needed.
They are ridiculously healthy, ready to be flavoured however you want and most importantly they taste wonderful.
I will admit, before trying them for the first time, I found the idea of cold porridge kinda grim.
However, I’m a definite convert so if you’re the same, please try them just once!
The basis for each different version is the same:
oats + chia seeds + liquid.
But from there you can go all out to personalise your overnight oats however you want.
The recipe I’ve shared below is for a banana & peanut version (which is divine!).
However, a quick whizz round pinterest and you’ll come up with a bazillion new flavour combos to try.
How about these to get you going…
- Raspberry & dark chocolate chip
- Carrot cake
- Maple & cinnamon
- Apple pie
- Chocolate orange
- Vanilla & almond
- Pumpkin spice, and so the list goes on!
And here’s a fun little video I made showing you just how easy they are to make!
Overnight Oats Camping Recipe
Here’s the recipe friends.
I hope you enjoy it!
- 1/2 cup porridge oats
- 1/2 cup Liquid: water, milk, orange or apple juice etc
- 2 tsp chia seeds
- 1 banana, ripe & mashed
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
Mix everything together in a plastic tub before you go to bed.
The next morning your oats will be soft and ready to eat, straight from the tub.
- Add a splash more liquid if you'd like them looser, and feel free to top them with fruit, nuts seeds, honey or another spoon of peanut butter. Yum!

Overnight oats are just so delicious and so handy. Ideal for week day breakfasts, and great for breakfasts on the go. I like to make a batch and put them in small kiln jars. So many delicious versions to chose from, but I think you had me at raspberry and dark chocolate.

Can you believe I still haven’t made overnight oats, I have to challenge myself to do this this week as I’m always last to join a trend. These sound right up my street as I love bananas and peanut butter:-)

Hi! Your recipes are wonderful, and I can’t wait to make this one again! I had this for today’s breakfast at my sister’s house, and we both loved it!!
Anyway, if it doesn’t bother you, I wanted to ask you something. My fridge broke, but I have a working freezer and my class starts at 6.15 am, so I was wondering, do you think I can store my overnight oatmeal with icepacks overnight, and bring it to eat it in school at 9 or 12 am? I live in tropical area, so I don’t think I can leave it in room temperature all night in my dorm, but my classroom always have A/C on!
So it would have 8 hours with icepacks, and 4 hours with A/C on, do you think it will still be edible and good?
Thank youuuu!!!!!

**BEST MESSAGE EVER!!!**
Thank you Monica for making me smile :) It’s such a simple recipe, but SO good isn’t it! In answer to your question, I think it would be fine stored with ice packs out of the freezer over night. You could wrap the overnight oats and ice packs together in a towel or newspaper to keep it insulated if you don’t have a cool box or bag. The air conditioned room would be fine I’m sure :)
