Hello!
I’m Janie, chief story teller & tea brewer here at The Hedgecombers.
This site exists to document (and admittedly, sometimes mock) the successes & failures of Jonny & I on our small patch of Cornwall, South West England.
Our ultimate aim is to build up a resource of useful posts, ideas & recipes, invaluable to anyone starting out on their own self sufficiency, gastro-adventure.
From growing fruit & veggies, rearing animals for meat and eggs, preserving excess produce for leaner months and cooking up a storm in our teeny little kitchen. Real food is the main driving force behind all that we do.
We love receiving comments from readers (click the button below each post). We love seeing you on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or Pinterest. We love your ideas & suggestions on how we could improve this website, or improve our land management systems. Introduce yourselves and your blogs, and let’s build our own community of Real Fooders!
Together, let’s grow, sow, feed, dig, pluck, mend, pick, weed, whittle, water, harvest, cook and eat. Just not all at once.
I do hope you’ll don your virtual wellies, and join us for the ride.

Sounds like you have a wonderful life. I am in Devon …. enjoying a simple life and yes, creations made from old pallets! I am going to try your Flapjack recipe, looks yummy and so easy. Thanks for sharing!
Debs
Hi Debs, enjoy the flapjacks! Janie x
Hi,
I adore the website, and the lifestyle! I moved down to Padstow from London in October and am still excited every time I see the dramatic Cornish sea and the stunning countryside. My hubbie is originally from Bodmin so we have been coming down for years but now we live here I can fulfil my dreams of eating the best seasonal local produce, getting outdoors into the wild every day and feeling the genuine warmth from people we meet. It rocks!
Kindest Regards, Nadia
Hey Nadia, thank you for the lovely note! And welcome (belatedly!) to Cornwall! Isn’t it just the most wonderful place on earth?

Dear Janie,
I find your beautifull picture of a ferret on your website. The albino ferret who comes out of the box is lovely. We need a photo of a albino ferret in our new course of predators. May we use your photo for this?
Thanks in advance, Rudi Debruyne
Hello Rudi, thank you for your lovely message. I’d be delighted to help you out with the image, please just add a link to hedgecombers.com in return.
All the best, Janie
Rudi, I’ve just been and visited your website, you have some beautiful pictures! Please let me know if you’d like a full size image of the ferrets as I can email it to you. Janie x
Janie,
Just read your sad news. My thoughts are with you.
