Ever wondered how to make instant porridge oats at home?
It’s super cheap and you know exactly what’s going into your breakfast.
Ever wondered how to make instant porridge oats?
You know, that horribly overpriced oat powder that you can get in the supermarket with all kinds of sweeteners and dubious ingredients added.
Well, now you can make your own.
Whilst it’s not interesting enough to warrant a ‘recipe’ as such, here’s me feeling a twit in front of the camera instead.
No sniggering at the back now :)
Many thanks to Shutterstock for the image.

Great video Janie. You are a natural in front of the camera. When I first read the title of your post, I thought to myself, what is there to know about Instant porridge? But after watching your video, I have picked up some useful tips for when I go camping.
Jane Sarchet says
Haha, you can see why it didn’t actually warrant a ‘recipe’ now :) Thank you Tina, I appreciate your comment :)

Hi Jeanie,They always say ,the simple things are the best!Thank you for that.Insulated mug,£1 apiece at the pound shop. But just resently Aldi did a soup flask/tub,that will be ideal.Though if going lite weight.n not wanting to wash up.the plastic bag ideas best.
N if you want to giggle !giggle !cos it rubs off on people n makes them happy.!Now when I think of Porrage,I’ll think of you;lol.atb.mike.
Jane Sarchet says
Bless you Mike, thank you. I am a natural giggler, and even having a camera in my face won’t stop me! :)
We have the soup tub, and it is absolutely perfect for porridge. Once you’ve eaten breakie, fill it up with any hot water left in the kettle, lid on, shake it and Ta Da! No washing up necessary :)
Thanks for stopping by Mike and taking the time to leave a comment.

Love this video Janie. Tina is right you are a natural. And never having made instant porridge, this was a completely new concept to me. What a great idea. Camping seems heaps more appealing with the thought of porridge for breakfast ;-)
Jane Sarchet says
Haha, doesn’t it just :D So long as you’re warm, dry and well fed, camping is great fun!

Great tip! I’ll definitely be make some of this next time we go camping. The mark-up on these convenience foods really is outrageous.
Jane Sarchet says
I know right! And generally speaking, the more they process it, the more crap they put in it too. Much better to make it yourself :)

What a great idea – good to keep in your bottom drawer at work too for when you don’t have time for breakfast and want some instant porridge!

Hi Janie, I have my Gold Duke of Edinburgh coming up and this is a godsend meaning the entire group of us can have this and its not as heavy as carrying tins of beans and things and is a good healthy full breakfast. Thankyou so much x
Jane Sarchet says
Hey Harry, that’s so cool of you to leave a comment – thank you! Good luck & enjoy your breakfasts!
Janie x
PS hopefully you’ll have room to carry a tub of golden syrup too ;)
Harry Martin says
Hey Janie,
What measurements would u use of oats and powdered milk? and yeah that sounds great golden syrup all the way
Harry x
Jane Sarchet says
:) I didn’t do any measuring to be honest Harry – and as you don’t ‘need’ the milk powder to make a decent bowl of porridge you can’t really go wrong. Why not try with a tablespoon or two to start with and see what you think.

Oooh perfect! Off to a festival tomorrow with my 2 yr old and 8 month old. Need to give them instant porridge before bed to attempt a later wake up call! I came across your video, I’m going to give it a go, thank you for taking the time to share :)
Jane Sarchet says
Hey Laura, thanks so much for your lovely message! How did you get on with the instant oats? Did they have the deep sleep qualities you were after??! :D
