Remember these two little cuties, Truffle & Fudge?
Well, take a look at them now!
They are 6 weeks old and ‘off heat’ (meaning they no longer need to be under a heat lamp during the day or night) and spend their days inside the poly tunnel. I am desperately hoping to instil them with a taste for slugs and snails, so they can become allotment ducks (aka pets ;)
They are pretty productive at weeding. Whole areas of chickweed have been demolished, and whilst they nibble on the cabbages and calabrese, their most unexpected indulgence, is a love of chilli pepper leaves.
These poor plants used to be covered in lush green leaves. That is until Truffle & Fudge took up residence.
They have stripped every leaf they can reach, and as the ducks grow taller, the plants get more and more naked.
They appear pretty adept at picking the peppers too, leaving a trail of destruction behind them.
What is perhaps the most surprising though, is they appear to be eating said chilli peppers!
Out of all the yummy things in here that they could be feasting upon, and they pick a very hot pepper. They are so hot, even the slugs leave them alone!

amazing.
I know right? Weird :)
I’m glad you said they are pets before I heard they are getting spiced in advance! :-)
The thought had crossed my mind! Just imagine :)
They are so cute!
And terribly spoilt :)
