Finally, We Have Some Muscovy Ducklings!

If you’re on Facebook, you may have seen this pic of a very proud Pixie with her clutch of half hatched Muscovy ducklings.

Hatching Muscovy Ducklings

8 hatched, 2 of which died and these are the 6 remaining cuties. They are such time wasters :)

Mamma Muscovy Duck

Two more eggs had pipped, but Pixie had abandoned the eggs before the little ones had hatched. By the time I got to them they were stone cold, but as they were still moving inside the shells, I figured there was nothing to lose. I ‘peeled’ them out of their shells (a big no no according to all the books – never do this unless if you really have nothing to lose) and popped them in the airing cupboard.

Honestly, I expected to find them dead within the hour. But 24 hours later, these 2 are causing havoc in my front room!

House Ducklings?

So adorable, they’ve imprinted me as their mummy and answer me when I call them. I can’t see Pixie accepting them back as her own, so these two may end up as extended house guests. Just don’t tell Jonny my plans :)

Oh gosh, they’re so cute! I’m slightly enviously. I’d love to be a duckling ‘mummy’! LOL.

  2. Too cute for words! We have chickens and I LOVE my chickens. But I often think about adding some ducks to the mix.

If you have the space – do it! They take no more work than the flock you already have, and they are so much fun :)

  3. Oh my, aren’t ducklings the cutest!? We had 7 mallard ducklings hatch yesterday. Pixie looks so calm. Our mama duck, Quackers, is a very grumpy mama!

    Have a great weekend.

  4. How cute I love ducklings
